On July 26, 2025, a satellite passed over the Gaza Strip and captured images of hundreds of people gathered around a convoy of aid trucks, pleading for supplies. Many people had gathered near the truck convoy, appearing from the satellite's perspective like a swarm of ants. The incident occurred near a pile of rubble in the southern part of the territory.
This is not the first time such a situation has occurred in Gaza. Since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas militants in 2023, trucks carrying humanitarian supplies have often been surrounded by crowds before reaching their destinations. However, this incident reflects that Gaza is in greater need of supplies and more starved than ever before. Palestinians are suffering severely from famine, with numerous people killed in the crowd while attempting to obtain food. As aid organizations issue urgent warnings about the famine, some have been shot dead at the few aid distribution points currently operated by Israel in the territory, while others were killed while rushing toward the trucks. Earlier this month, at least 20 people died in a stampede at an aid distribution point.
Life for Gazans is becoming increasingly difficult, with many Gazans risking chaos to earn a living for their families. However, more often than not, they return empty-handed. Those with more resources bring goods to the market to sell. However, the goods in the market are often exorbitantly priced, beyond the means of ordinary people. Many Gazans belong to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled. Additionally, some people fear the chaos and do not want to take risks, so they have to pay exorbitant prices for these essential goods.
